About Cannabis Assisted Psychedelic Therapy (CAPT)

A sacred healing plant medicine

“ When cannabis is used intentionally and skilfully, it is just as potent as other psychedelic medicines such as psilocybin, MDMA and even Ayahuasca or DMT in a therapeutic setting.”

– Daniel McQueen, Psychedelic Sitter’s School USA

Pete has a massive focus trauma resolution, and is dedicated to assisting individuals in their quest for deep and transformative healing. I have partnered with creative explorers of consciousness and adept problem-solvers who consistently push the limits of human potential.

CAPT sessions reframe the Cannabis experience as not just a substance to be used in recreational settings and expands upon the ever-increasing medical efficacy being discovered daily. When used in an intentional container with a professionally trained psychedelic guide, this modality deepens the healing and transformational process and makes somatic (body-centered) trauma work more efficient and more effective than typical healing modalities.

Cannabis when worked with as a safe and sacred medicinal tool, support us in many healing processes such as resolving & releasing trauma within the nervous system, resolving tensions & emotions stored deep within the body, tracking inner sensations, creative processing, sense of purpose and mental clarity.

Pete works with Cannabis, not only because it is accessible for adults legally medicinally in Australia and legal recreational in a number of countries worldwide, but also because we have found it to be an incredible medicine to combine with Somatic Processing & Psychedelic Therapy.

Under the guidance of an experienced therapist we will embark on an active psychedelic or psycholytic journey, exploring thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and experiences with deep introspection. Cannabis disrupts habitual thought patterns and the activity of the Default Mode Network, softening conscious rational filters and defense mechanisms. This relaxation allows access to deeper layers of the unconscious, uncovering repressed emotional content, personal, past and ancestral traumas, and hidden memories.

Depending on the clients needs, the individual consumes a low to medium dose of cannabis, sufficient to enter an altered expanded state of consciousness without losing their connection to reality.

Cannabis often supports a somatic and autonomic nervous system (ANS) exploration, allowing for the processing and release of deeply embedded traumatic memories and experiences. These are stored within the body's biochemical systems, beyond the reach of traditional verbal psychotherapy methods that emphasise understanding, insight, narrative-building, or coping strategies.

Legal psychedelic therapy with cannabis offers a powerful, transformative alternative to other forms of psychedelic healing, delivering profound therapeutic benefits without the hefty price tag. While traditional therapies using psilocybin or ayahuasca often involve expensive retreats, international travel, or specialised clinics, sometimes costing tens of thousands of dollars, Cannabis Assisted Psychedelic Therapy is accessible, affordable, and most importantly, legal in many regions.

This approach not only makes deep healing more financially attainable but also opens the door to continued practice and growth. By removing financial barriers, Cannabis-Assisted Therapy allows you to commit to a sustained journey of self-discovery and transformation, offering profound results without the overwhelming costs. It’s a compassionate, supportive way to explore your inner world and create meaningful, lasting change.

Contrary to popular belief, Cannabis is a classic psychedelic. Until recently, however, it just wasn’t grown with the quality, potency, and unique characteristics required to actualise as a reliable psychedelic medicine. The War on Drugs grossly distorted our understanding of cannabis, even within the psychedelic therapy community, and this has limited our perception of what we thought possible. As Cannabis legalisation sweeps across the country, people are waking up to the incredible potential of this plant.

Clean, well grown, organic cannabis has evolved today to be exceptionally potent with THC levels testing around 25%-30%. When grown properly with care and love cannabis can produce diverse profiles of fragrance which contribute to the myriad of physiological and psychological effects that this amazing plant is capable of eliciting.

Did you know that when Cannabis is used intentionally and skillfully, it is just as potent as other psychedelic medicines in a therapeutic setting? Since Cannabis has a “shape shifting” nature and can mimic other medicines, clients commonly report experiences that are as potent and psychedelic as MDMA, Psilocybin, Ayahuasca and even DMT. Cannabis Assisted practitioners are required to learn how to competently work with all the other medicines in a single session, ranging from gentle MDMA to vivid DMT states which is contributed with intention, set, setting and dosage. No other medicine creates such a diverse psychedelic experience.

Psychedelic Cannabis experiences are perfect for people who are curious about psychedelics but don’t know where to start and looking for a legal approach. They’re also great for experienced psychonauts seeking to deepen their psychedelic practice. Psychegetics works with individuals who seek deep, transformational healing and those who are creative explorers of consciousness, complex problem-solvers, pushing the edges of human potential.

When cultivated with care and attention, cannabis produces a diverse range of fragrances, contributing to the vast physiological and psychological effects this extraordinary plant can induce.

From a scientific perspective, Cannabis Sativa holds a complex profile of compounds, including cannabinoids and terpenes. These constituents interact with the endocannabinoid system, influencing various physiological functions. THC, the primary psychoactive compound, engages with receptors in the brain, altering neurotransmitter release and impacting mood and cognition.

When Cannabis is worked with as a safe and sacred medicinal tool, it support us in many healing processes such as resolving & releasing trauma within the nervous system, resolving tensions & emotions stored deep within the body, tracking inner sensations, creative processing, sense of purpose and mental clarity.

In the context of Cannabis Assisted Psychedelic Psychotherapy, the experience transcends recreational use, tapping into the plant's potential for deep healing. In intentional settings with a professionally trained psychedelic guide, this modality enhances the healing and transformational process, making somatic trauma work more efficient and effective.

Scientifically, cannabinoids like CBD have shown anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties, potentially influencing pain management and neurological disorders. Terpenes contribute to the plant's diverse aromatic profiles and may have therapeutic effects, influencing mood and stress levels.

Ultimately, the marriage of ancient wisdom with contemporary scientific understanding underscores the potential of Cannabis Sativa as a tool for holistic healing and transformation.

There are many legitimate medical and mental health reasons to consume cannabis on a regular, daily basis. It is a very safe substance with very few side effects, and the benefits often outweigh the disadvantages, especially when used with intention.

Some of the reasons you would choose Psychedelic Cannabis over other Psychedelics in a non-clinical setting are:

  • Most Affordable

  • Very Safe when held by an experienced guide

  • Can be used consistently to accelerate healing

  • Can legally be practiced in Australia with a prescription

The individual consumes a low dose of cannabis, sufficient to enter an altered state of consciousness without losing their connection to reality.

Under the guidance of an experienced therapist, they then embark on an active psychedelic or psycholytic journey, exploring their thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and experiences with deep introspection. Cannabis disrupts habitual thought patterns and the activity of the Default Mode Network, softening conscious rational filters and defense mechanisms. FAQs

  • Yes, when used with intention, the right setting (environment), set (mindset), utilising ancient tools, dose dependency and holding space can ignite similar effects as other top-known psychedelics such as psilocybin, ayahuasca and even DMT.

From a scientific perspective, cannabis is classified as a hallucinogen, which places it within the broader psychedelic spectrum. However, the depth and nature of the experience are highly dose-dependent, person-dependent, and context-dependent. Intention, environment, nervous system safety, and skilled facilitation all play a significant role.

In this work, cannabis is approached not as a recreational substance, but as a conscious, somatic catalyst, used to deepen embodiment, emotional processing, and integration rather than to chase peak experiences.

  • No prior experience with psychedelics is necessary.

Psychedelic cannabis journeys offer a gentler and more accessible entry point into altered states of consciousness compared to many classical psychedelics. Each session is approached with care, intention, and pacing, and is tailored to your experience level, sensitivity, and nervous system capacity.

You are supported throughout the process with clear guidance, preparation, and integration. The focus is not on intensity or peak experiences, but on embodiment, safety, and listening to the body. Many people with no prior psychedelic experience find this work to be a supportive and grounding introduction.

  • Preparation is simple and supportive rather than rigid. In the days leading up to your session, you may be invited to stay well hydrated, eat lightly, and wear comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement and relaxation.

You’ll also be guided to reflect on your intention for the journey, not as a goal to achieve, but as a gentle orientation for the body and mind. .

Specific preparation guidelines are shared during the preparation session, where we discuss nervous system readiness, expectations, dose, strain The focus is on creating a sense of safety, clarity, and trust before the journey begins.

  • Online sessions can be highly effective for many people and often offer a different—but equally meaningful, depth of experience.

Much of Pete’s facilitation experience has been in online settings, where participants are supported to journey safely within their own familiar environment. For some, being at home can enhance relaxation, embodiment, and nervous system safety, allowing the work to unfold naturally.

While in-person sessions offer the benefit of physical presence, online work emphasises self-attunement, guided awareness, and integration, which can be just as profound when held well.

To support the best experience, a stable internet connection, a good quality microphone or headset, and a quiet, private space are recommended.

  • Yes, you will need to bring your own prescribed cannabis as Psychegetics will not supply or sell cannabis, please check links for medical doctors that will prescribe the medicine. Strains can be discussed on the discovery call. Look for organic, non-GMO flowers if possible. A vape is advised also but not essential.

  • While psychedelic cannabis journeys are generally well tolerated when facilitated responsibly, participants may experience intense emotions, heightened body sensations, or temporary discomfort during a session. These experiences are not considered side effects in themselves, but natural responses as the nervous system processes sensation, emotion, or stored tension.

At Psychegetics, sessions are carefully monitored and paced to prioritise safety, regulation, and consent. You are encouraged to communicate openly at any point if something feels overwhelming or uncomfortable, and support is always available.

Preparation, clear boundaries, skilled facilitation, and post-session integration all play an important role in reducing risk. This work is not about pushing limits or chasing intensity, but about listening to the body and working within your capacity.

  • Seek recommendations from trusted sources, and research facilitator backgrounds, and inquire about their training and experience. Ensure they adhere to safety protocols and ethical standards. There are a lot of people who are not qualified, so ask to see documentation of qualifications and which school they studied at.

  • Yes. Psychegetics places strong emphasis on integration as an essential part of the process.

Integration support is offered to help you make sense of your experience, stay regulated, and bring insights into daily life in a practical, embodied way. This may include somatic reflection, grounding practices, gentle inquiry, and guidance on how to work with emotions or sensations that continue to unfold after the session.

  • Yes, psychedelic cannabis journeys can often be integrated alongside other therapeutic or wellness practices and may complement ongoing personal work.

Many participants choose to combine this work with modalities such as psychotherapy, bodywork, somatic practices, meditation, or movement-based therapies. When done thoughtfully, this can support deeper integration and continuity between experiences.

Open communication is encouraged. Discussing your intentions with both your facilitator and any relevant healthcare or mental health professionals helps ensure that practices are aligned and supportive of your overall wellbeing. Each journey is approached with respect for your individual needs, capacity, and circumstances.

  • Frequency varies from person to person and depends on how well experiences are integrated into daily life.

Unlike many classical psychedelics, cannabis does not require long recovery periods between sessions. For some individuals, sessions may be appropriate as often as once a week, while others benefit more from spacing journeys further apart. What matters most is not frequency, but nervous system capacity, integration, and stability.

Your facilitator will support you in determining a rhythm that feels safe, sustainable, and aligned with your life circumstances. Sessions are never approached as something to “stack” or rush, but as part of an ongoing, integrated process.Frequency varies from person to person and depends on how well experiences are integrated into daily life.

  • Depending on your location. If in Australia, no, it’s not legal to drive under the influence of cannabis, if in person and not completed at home, the person must pre-arrange a lift home after the experience and ensure that cannabis is out of the system before committing to driving.

  • Regular or long-term cannabis use can sometimes reduce sensitivity to its psychoactive effects. However, psychedelic cannabis work is not dependent on visuals or dramatic altered states. The focus is on somatic awareness, emotional processing, nervous system regulation, and embodied insight, which can remain accessible even without overt “psychedelic” effects.

For participants with higher tolerance, preparation guidelines may include a short period of abstinence (often up to 24 hours) prior to a session, where appropriate. This is discussed on an individual basis and is intended to support sensitivity and clarity—not intensity.

Each session is approached with flexibility and attunement. The work meets you where you are, and depth is measured by integration and embodiment, not by how psychedelic the experience appears.

  • Cannabis in Pete’s opinion is the safest psychedelic as it has agency, and users can exit the psychedelic experience, unlike other psychedelics. CBD can be used to relax and calm the nervous system as anxiety or paranoia comes up in the session. Unlike other psychedelics, cannabis can be used in psychedelic therapy up to two, or three times a week as a psychedelic which accelerates growth and healing of the client instead of other common psychedelics that are used monthly or yearly..

  • When facilitated by experienced guides in a supportive environment, Psychedelic cannabis journeys can be safe. Safety protocols are in place to ensure participants' well-being, and the experience is tailored to individual needs.

  • Participants engage in mindfulness practices with the added support of cannabis, which leads to heightened awareness, emotional release, and a sense of exploration. Sensations may vary, including tingling, warmth, or visual experiences. Experienced facilitators guide the journey.

  • Session durations vary, but a typical Psychedelic Cannabis Therapy Journey sessions may last from 2-3 hours, allowing for a deep and immersive experience.
This timeframe allows space for preparation, the journey itself, and initial integration, without rushing the process.

  • Psychedelic cannabis journeys are not suitable for everyone, and suitability is always assessed on an individual basis.

While many people tolerate this work well when it is facilitated responsibly, certain medical or psychological conditions may make participation inappropriate. Psychedelic cannabis journeys are also not suitable for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

As part of the process, a consultation and safety screening is completed prior to any session. This allows us to assess readiness, discuss health history, medications, and nervous system capacity, and determine whether this work is appropriate or if alternative support would be more suitable.

  • While each person’s experience is unique, many participants report benefits such as increased self-awareness, emotional release, and a deeper connection to their body and inner experience.

    Potential benefits may include:

    • Greater clarity around emotions, patterns, or life themes

    • Release of stored tension or emotional charge held in the body

    • Improved nervous system regulation and sense of safety

    • Enhanced creativity, intuition, and insight

    • Preparation and Integration of other plant psychedelic medicines

    • A felt sense of connection to self, body, and present-moment awareness

    • Support with integration of past experiences through embodied awareness
